Canopy measures passenger flow, crowd density and public realm usage from existing cameras, without identifying individuals.
What we measure
Passenger flow
Anonymous counts at station entry, platforms, bus stops. Directional, by zone, by time.
Crowd density
Real-time density in defined public zones. Triggers an operations alert when density exceeds a planned threshold.
Public realm usage
How a plaza, park or shopping strip is used across the day. Informs council planning decisions.
For councils
Two constraints apply to public-sector deployments in Australia: OAIC guidance on AI-enabled surveillance, and public acceptance of cameras in public space. Edge inference with anonymous event streams meets both.
Deployment example
A transport interchange typically starts with a CU-3 unit in the equipment room, fed by existing station cameras. Zones are drawn on a map: entry, platform, bus stop, taxi rank. Density alerts are set per zone, per peak window. Operations gets a live view; planning gets the aggregate numbers.
